Default Guild Advantages?

Okay, I've been playing for about two years, and due to several bad experiences involving collaboration with other players on missions, have developed a disdain for such collaboration.
Basically I've boiled player interaction down to seeking information, trading, and running missions.

I've had several guild invitations, but not knowing anyone on GW in real life, plus my negative experience, hasn't given me much incentive to join.

Can ya'll give me some positive testimonials or reasons why being in a guild would be better than just going it alone?

...keep in mind that I have no interest in PvP/GvG.

Default My Family

This group of people that I have been playing with almost since the beginning of GW have been like friends an family. Dont know them in Real life but know about their life in Real time. I have been in 3 guilds. 1 guild was sold out the day it was made. The 2nd guild was where I found these players. The guild split in two due to diff takes on the game. I went with the players that I knew the best. That was a little over a year ago. We did the GvG thing. PvP thing. In charge of an Kurzick Alliance 10 guilds. Took away the joy of the game. We are now Luxon an have been in this Alliance for about 5 months. Great people. Some are a little flakey. But through it all the main thing that comes back to me is my Guild. These players have made me laugh throughout most of the game. I cant count the amount of the times that I tasted the dirt of defeet . If it was not for this guild of Friends I would have stopped long ago.Now we have plans to take the guild into GW2 an GW3 if there is ever one made. So yes there is Talk, Trade"not selling" how to play a toon.
An how to enjoy the game to the Fullest. I can not speak for all guilds. I am sure there are great guilds out there. Probley better than mine. But to me. This guild is the best. For its members make it so. {EotI} Exiles of the Ironguard. To me there is none better. But for you dont give up on finding a guild that you can click with. They are out there. There is one here if you want to join. If not. Then there are great guilds out there.Join one. An you will get a kick out of it.
Take Care
An remember its about the guild, The people, The Friends you make. An then the Game

Don't know how much of a social person you are, but I am extremely so. Helps that the guild I'm in have people who're as chatty as me, and often we would just hang out in the guild hall, chatting the night away. In fact I do more of that than actually playing the game these days, it's what keeps me coming back. Couldn't think of what GW would be like without my guild, I'd probably have quit the game ages ago. And it's not just the in-game chatting, we talk over Vent/TS/MSN and played other online-games together, even met few of them in real life. They've proven to be more than gaming buddies many times over in the lives of many of the guildies, when one's going through a rough patch, or had been through an accident, or are celebrating a birthday, the guild's always been there to cheer them on, or cheer them up. The main purpose of the guild, as others have said, is to make friends, and if you get friends who carry beyond the game even, then you've truly discovered a gold mine worth more than whatever you could've paid for your copy of GW.

Basically, gw was like that for a very long time for me. There just wasn't a community... and I couldn't really rely on anyone in game to ever do anything with me. I felt as though people fell into one of three categories... they were immature, leavers, or elitists. So I left gw for about a year.

I came back one day, because I had moved and saw all my gw stuff, and decided to try it "one more time". I ended up joining a guild called BOSS that was pretty cool at the time. They were small and had a couple active players that did a lot together. I started gaining friends in that very small Alliance and before I knew it I was able to weed out the people I didn't like and put them on ignore, and then add people I liked and put them on my friend's list.

I outgrew the guild as a player and ended up asking a bunch of the friends I had made over the months if they wanted to buy a guild from someone and start fresh. One of my friends had a empty hall and gave it to me for free... which rocked! Some of my friend were already guild leaders and officers in established guilds, but wanted to be a part of a family of friends (if that makes sense). Before I knew it, we had twenty members logging on daily and playing together. In the first week, we gathered enough gold to buy every service in the hall... which was a very uplifting moment. We came together to help out the guild as a whole. Not just one mission for the new guy, but the whole guild came together and donated!

This was the beginning of what gw is for me now. I love the game. I love the the guys in my guild and I am proud of how far they have taken us. We are now in an Alliance that owns a town and things are great. Our numbers have jumped and all my friends have become close officers who take pride in our guild. The vent channel always has someone on to talk to, and I can rely heavily on my officers to help out the new guy and to be good members.

I always smile when I see someone in Kaineng from our guild recruiting in All chat. I can remember when it was just a handful of us. Keep sticking it out. The good thing about gw is that there are a lot of guilds out there that are devoted to just one area of gw. Stick to it and you will find a home. GW is a great community game if you find your community. Take care, and I hope that little history lesson of my own experience has helped you. I know, in proof-reading this, it has helped me to remember.

Thank you for your time.

I'm a very social guy as well. Guildless, I stop playing. The fact I have many friends and the activities we do are two of the very few things keeping me in this game at the moment, so if you cut the guild, I'll eventually quit GW.

I was in a guild for 9 months before being in HiDE. Met some awesome people in the previous guild, some I still have contact with every now and then. For once, I had folks willing to help each other, and I happened to have been one of those who needed help. I improved over a short time, and not only as a player. I also improved in leadership (don't get me wrong, I wasn't leader of the guild O_o;;, I had joined as your average member and got promoted within 2 months) and got enough experience to start up a guild with a good friend when things started to go down in the guild we both were in. We had people following us, some stayed... we joined an alliance, gained more experience, and then made our own. We've gained several great friends through this. We log on vent, make fun of each other for a while before everyone's ready for an activity, and we go out and do something. I rarely end up playing alone.

But for that kind of thing to happen you need a guild that suits you. Check for people who you share a common interest in (the whole point of guilds), and if you're not fond of the in-game recruiting or teaming up with people, you could always try finding a guild through here. Don't be afraid to ask questions either.

It all depends on the guild that you join. Some are just completely pointless grouping of people under 1 banner, others the sole purpose is the agrandisment of the guild leader bolstering his or her ego, but then there are some that are genuine social guilds with a purpose. Guilds where if you ask for help there is usually at least 1 other member in the guild or alliance who can help, either advice or actually coming and helping with a quest, mission, farming or whatever. Even rarer are guilds that also help with resources! Guilds where members are able to donate what they can get quite easily, and in return access resources donated by other members that they can not get so easily, in addition to the social aspects.

Basically what I am saying is, it's all in the luck of the draw. You might get a guild where nobody even speaks to each other, but then again you might just get to join one of those guilds that are worth been a part of. A guild that makes you feel valued, and supports you at the same time as you support others.

If you can't tell, I happen to love my guild.

same is with me, i'm leader of a very nice guild(around 80 ppl) and i am still in game only because i like those ppl so much to get online every day to chat with them, do some missions etc. While im talking with them, even missions are not boring anymore, and we are maxing titles together, sometimes do some pvp for fun, weekly events etc. Even tjo i dont really know most of em from real life, they are usualy better frieds than those from real... if you dont like someone here, you just go offline or something... Well, i suggest you to try out some guild(best choice is to find one here via guru, as you can see detailed info about guild), then u can decidede if you like a life with guildies etc.

Joining a guild is only as advantageous as you make it. I made my guild out of a desire to never be subject to the whims of others again. My guild is small but fairly active and we have an excellent alliance. I find myself spending more time chatting with our allies or with guildies than playing the game sometimes.

Not knowing any people who play GW in real life shouldn't stop you from joining a guild. I'd played for about 10 months before anyone I knew started playing GW and to be honest I don't play more or less because people I know might be on. Luckily, no GW dramu ever carries over into RL. I hate it when it does.

Ultimately you need to ask yourself: do I like GW for the game itself or for the social aspect of it? Anti-social people don't thrive in guilds...unless its full of other anti-social people. *lol*
